For over 25 years, Tom Tobin has been an AYSO volunteer. For most of that time, he served as a referee, Regional Referee Administrator, a member of both Area staff and Section staff in Section 10, and was a member of the National Referee Commission. He also served as a divisional commissioner, a coach and even served a stint as Regional Commissioner in Palos Verdes, California. In April 2003, he faced a genuine dilemma. Should he continue his professional career as a producer of animated motion pictures and relocate to Loretto, Italy or make an abrupt mid-life career change in favor of a job with AYSO as its Director of Volunteer Programs? It took him less than 30 seconds to make the choice.

As AYSO’s Director of Programs and Volunteer Services, Tom has administrative responsibility for the AYSO Coaching, Management and Referee programs, and for AYSO’s Special Programs, such as VIP, the AYSO Hall of Fame, Tournaments and the AYSO National Games. Volunteer Services is the customer services arm of the National Office, handling all nature of inquiries from members, parents and outsiders about AYSO and how it works. Tom feels extremely fortunate that he has strong and experienced staff to do the real work of these important departments of the National Office.
